Cremation And Urns
When you're cremated, how do they deal with implanted, metallic medical things?
As the owner of a 10 inch long titanium hip, I'm curious about how that's dealt with technically by funeral homes. At most of the funerals I've been to involving cremations, the urn, box, or whatever they call it, seems too small to accommodate something like that. Do they sift and discard? Also, I imagine including it with the ashes might be a little disconcerting to those who opt for "scattering"
There is a large magnet that removes any metal pieces, and they are disposed of, they are not placed in with the ashes. The only thing removed prior to cremation is a pacemaker, as is can explode and damage the bricks of the crematory retort. Other than than, you are cremated as is and then any metal is sifted out.
