Horse Cremation

What happens to pet horses when they die?

I assume it's some kind of cremation, but how do you cremate such a big animal?

Don't listen to some of those other answers, they are from people who don't see horses as people, if you know what i mean. My best friend (horse) Molly, passed away from a stroke at the ripe old age of 35, just 2 months ago. I was and still am devestated. Anyway, to answer your question, some people cremate them on a big bonfire (usually on big properties) and some people take them to their local council where they can be cremated.

I wanted my baby buried in my own backyard. Luckily, I live on a few acres. I had to call a backhoe and driver in on the same day that it happened and he dug the biggest, deepest grave i have ever seen. My horses legs (after his soul had already gone to heaven) were tied together so that he could be lifted from where he lay, over to the hole in the ground. My dad held his head and neck while i bawled my eyes out inside the house. He was gently placed into the hole and my friend got in the hole and arranged his legs, mane, tail and head nicely. My family and I said a few kind words about our time together and he was covered up with soil. I can visit his grave every day without leaving my yard and there is some comfort in that.
