How to Put Together a Floral Arrangement

Anyone with a green thumb will tell you what a stress buster gardening is. Floral arrangements are just a part of it; well without the added complications of actually growing the flowers. But you can make your own floral arrangements, it’s really simple and at the end of the day it’s all about how creative you are.

Here are a few tips to get help you make your very own floral arrangements. You will see that there’s nothing to it. Let’s start with all the things you’ll need.

You have to decide on the designated space for the floral arrangement. Depending in the space you have to choose the vessel in which you are going to place the arrangement. There are many options for the vessel as well you have tall and short glass vases, metal urns, glass bowls or simple baskets.

If you are have chosen a spot where the wall colours of décor is bright and cluttered, choose simple flowers, preferably ones that are smaller and more delicate. It will add to the décor and not take away from it. On the other hand if you want to the flowers to the focal point then choose a simple vase with bright, long elaborate flowers. Try birds’ paradise or tiger lilies as they really stand out.

Choose a correct base for the flowers so they stay in place and last longer. You can choose from grapevines, twigs and willow branches. You will also find green foam called oasis which acts like a sponge. It absorbs large amounts of water and the flowers remain in place and don’t break because they are poked into the oasis.

The next thing is cutting the stems of the flowers. Make sure you cut them in the morning are they retain more water and will not wilt. If you want some variation in the arrangements don’t cut the stems in the same length. Play with the length which will help you with the floral arrangement. But make sure you don’t cut the stems too short; you don’t want them to get lost in the vase and fall below the desired height you want them at.

You can keep floral arrangements fresher by adding a tablet of paracetamol which will wake them right up and keep them fresh. You can also put in some lemon wedges that prevent premature rotting and also look funky in the vase.

While designing your floral arrangements, pick colours that gel with the environs. Use taller flowers with longer stems to create the back drop of the arrangement. Use colourful flowers in bloom at the centre to form the core of the arrangement. You can cut the stem shorter and use them on the sides as well. Try not to make it too cluttered, leave some space and add some ferns to break the colour and voila, your floral arrangement is ready!
